The Woman's Club of Greater New Milford is gearing up for its First Baby of the Year project.
The club annually presents a basket of goodies to the first baby born at New Milford Hospital.
This summer, Western Connecticut Health Network, with which New Milford and Danbury hospitals are affiliated, filed a necessary form with the state Department of Health to receive permission to shift birthing services from New Milford Hospital to Danbury Hospital.
A public hearing, conducted by the state Department of Public Health's Office of Health Care Access, was prompted by the proposal from the Western Connecticut Health Network. The network, which includes New Milford and Danbury hospitals, filed a certificate of need with the state Aug. 16 for permission to stop delivering babies at New Milford Hospital.
Hospital leaders had expected the birthing center could shift to Danbury by the end of this year.
With that in mind, the Woman's Club is accepting submissions from residents of New Milford, Gaylordsville, Washington, Marble Dale, New Preston, Sherman, Kent, Roxbury, Bridgewater and Warren on or after Jan. 1.
Submissions may be emailed to email@example.com through Jan. 10.
The mother selected will receive a gift basket filled with donations from club members and local businesses.
