Winford Fletcher, 56, of New Milford, died Sept. 8, 2011, after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family at the Village Crest Center for Health & Rehabilitation in New Milford. He was the husband of 20 years to Ratana Fletcher.

Mr. Fletcher was born March 18, 1955, in Lake Mahopac, N.Y. He attended school in Washington and then moved to New Milford, where he spent the remainder of his life.

In his early years, he was a furniture maker and was renowned for his craftsmanship and upholstery skills.

Later in life he became a security guard for New Milford Hospital.

But his greatest love came from his 15 years at the Elephants Trunk, where he could be found every weekend buying and selling militaria. There, he was known and loved by the collectors.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Fletcher is survived by a son, Joe Leemarpilab; two grandchildren; his mother, Joan Krasselt; three sisters, Judy Pitchard, Terry Krasselt and Kennia Krasselt; three brothers, Jimmy Fletcher, Wayne Fletcher and David Krasselt; a stepsister, Linda Andrighetti; a stepbrother; Michael Krasselt; many nieces and nephews; and many close friends. He was predeceased by his father, Clarence Krasselt.

At his request, no service will be held. Instead family and friends held a gathering Sept. 18 at Il Colosseo Restaurant in New Milford.
