William Sheldon, 89, was a World War II veteran

Mr. Sheldon was born May 20, 1921, in Litchfield, son of the late Walter L. and Barbara (Boulton) Sheldon.
Mr. Sheldon was the recipient of the President's Citation with Bronze Star, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, the World War II Victory Medal and the Navy Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Sheldon was a self-employed general building contractor.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, Mr. Sheldon is survived by a son, Deene W. Sheldon, and his wife, Missy, of Keene, N.H.; a brother, J. Peter Sheldon, of San Simon, Ariz.; two sisters, Jeanne Mosher, and her husband, Bill, of Warren, and Emily Whitford, and her husband, Bob, of Cornwall; two grandsons, Todd Sheldon, of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Daniel Sheldon, and his wife, Sara, of Manchester, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, James Sheldon, and a sister, Marge Osuch.
A funeral service will be held today (Friday) at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, Whittlesey Avenue, New Milford. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery, New Milford.
There are no calling hours.
