William "Bill" Clifford, 69, died suddenly Aug. 2, 2010, at his home in New Milford, with his wife, Ann, at his side.

Mr. Clifford was born Feb. 9, 1941, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, N.Y., where he grew up, the son of William Cilfford, of County Kerry, Ireland, and Helen (Conner) Clifford, of Brooklyn, N.Y.

He graduated from Fordham University with a degree in physics and math in 1961 and became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1968.

Until his retirement in 1996, he worked in the Actuarial Department of Equitable Life in New York City.

Mr. Clifford loved New Milford, where he spent many happy holidays and weekends. He was pleased to be able to move there permanently when he retired.

In addition to his wife of almost 49 years, Mr. Clifford is survived by four children and their families, Kathy, and her husband, David Hamel, of Garrison, N.Y., Andrew, and his wife, Marcia O'Connell, of Lambertville, N.J., David, and his wife, Marina Rozenstein, and Mary Ann, and her husband, Peter Bushey, all of Brooklyn N.Y.; five grandchildren, David and Brendan Hamel, Norah Clifford, of Lambertville, and Leah and Kailey Clifford, of Brooklyn; and devoted relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a son, William Thomas IV.

McLaughlin & Sons of Brooklyn was in charge of arrangements.
