Updated 10:16 pm, Sunday, April 13, 2014
Backcountry Outfitters in Kent will offer a spring break survival adventure, "Whittle a Spoon," April 16 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event, sponsored by the Kent Historical Society, will teach participants how to safely work with a whittling knife and embers from the campfire to make a wooden spoon with which to eat.
Attendees will prepare an old-fashioned soup on a campfire using a recipe from the archives of the historical society and eat it with the handcrafted spoons.
The program is geared toward children in grades five to eight. Fourth-grade students are welcome but must be with an adult.
The cost is $49 per child and $47 for members of the historical society.
All tools, materials, lunch and a survival sundae will be included.
