To the Editor:
Looking over the line items for the New Milford town budget, the not-for-profit section 10442600 again shows that they are getting raked over the coals with a reduction in fund requests by 30 percent.
If we do not do something now, many of these services will be left by the wayside and some will cease to eventually exist. It will cost us more next year. Some merit serious attention now; they are listed here:
The New Milford VNA requested $80,000 and is being reduced by $24,000 (30 percent) to $56,000. I inquired through a conversation with the New Milford VNA and was informed they will have to virtually eliminate their high- risk critical care to citizens in New Milford to offset this $24,000 reduction that the Town Council did not allow them.
The Children’s Center requested $148,800 and is being reduced by $43,840 (30 percent) to $104,160. They have already been hit hard, and it appears that the Town Council does not understand that they are forcing the center to eventually close its doors. The center is one of the greatest child care facilities in all of New Milford.
New Milford Center Cemetery requested $42,338 and is being reduced by $12,701 (30 percent) to $29,637. They will be expected to perform all the services necessary at the same level they are now. The New Milford Center Cemetery is an entity that will always need more revenue from the town, as the deceased population will grow annually, therefore they need for more funds to maintain it.
So, to the citizens of New Milford, we need to vote this budget down and have the Town Council do what is right for all of us.
