As viewed likely from the steps of the former Village Hardware on the east side of the Village Green in New Milford, now the home of the Village Center for the Arts, the town is dressed up for the firemen's parade celebrating the turn of the century to 1900. Two years later, the Great Fire was to destroy much of what appears in this photograph of the intersection of Main and Bank streets.

The United States Hotel, right, survived the fire while the New England House Hotel, left, did not. If you have an old photograph you’d like to share, email it to Deborah Rose at drose@newmilford.com.
