Two Warren men and one Branford man were arrested Sept. 11 on felony murder charges, among four men charged in a home invasion in Sharon.

Niraj Patel, 26, and Michael Calabrese, 27, both of Partridge Road in Warren, and Hiral Patel, 25, of Marks Court in Branford were arrested by state police and charged with felony murder, home invasion, first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, first-degree robbery and hindering prosecution.

They were held on $1 million bond each for arraignment in Superior Court in Litchfield.

Also arrested was Shyam Patel, 26, of Partridge Road in Warren on charges of tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution. He was held on $500,000 bond.

The charges stem from the investigation into a Aug. 6, 2012 home invasion and shooting, police said. State police Troop B troopers responded to a 911 call that day from a private home in Sharon.

On arrival at the Cornwall Bridge Road home, troopers found Rita Vitalis tied up in the kitchen and her son, Lucas Vitalis, suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.

Medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced Lucas Vitalis dead. Rita Vitalis appeared unharmed, according to police.

Rita Vitalis told detectives that two white men wearing dark gloves, knit caps and with bandanas covering their faces enter the home, secured her hands and then went upstairs carrying a long silver-barreled handgun.

Lucas Vitalis was found shot on the second floor, police said.

State police, the statewide Narcotics Task Force and local police departments assisted in the investigation, which is continuing.

Additional arrests are anticipated, police said.
