TheatreWorks New Milford is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and will recognize it at the theater’s “Cocktails & Cabaret” fundraiser Aug. 27 at the 19 Main venue in town.

The event will begin with cocktails at 4 p.m., followed by a cabaret show of songs and scenes from the theater’s 50-year history.

The program will feature familiar and new performers.

Patrons are invited to dress in their favorite semi-formal red, white and/or black attire.

"Our annual ‘Cocktails & Cabaret’ event is the brainchild of lifelong New Milford resident Ted Hine, who has been a huge supporter of TheatreWorks over the years,” said theater president Christine Daley.

“Mr. Hine recognizes the economic and cultural impact of keeping theater alive in New Milford and the surrounding area and I agree that it is beyond measure,” she said.

“Also, the building’s historical significance cannot be overlooked, with a roof that is in desperate need of repair,” she said. “We also hope to add solar panels next year in an effort to become more environmentally friendly."

Joining Hine in sponsoring roles this year are Tillie Paige Laird, Madeline and Stephen Anbinder, CohnReznick LLP, Norman Adler & Michele Shackelford, Diane and Marty Gucker, June Baldyga, Candlewood Valley Motors, the Law Office of Cecilia Buck-Taylor, Linda and Thomas Sprick, Angela and Joseph Barna, Marilyn Lieff, John Lundin and Gary Trible.

Tickets are $75, and sponsorships are still available.

Sponsors will receive tickets to the event as well as various levels of publicity benefits based on the role.

Event proceeds will benefit the theater’s building fund, designated for ongoing maintenance and upgrades that ticket sales alone cannot cover.

The theatre building is a historic church built in 1901.
