The eighth annual Swanson Horrigan Memorial slowpitch softball tournament will be played this weekend, July 9-11 at the Ted Alex/Dick Ayer/Joe Martin field complex adjacent to Washington Primary School.

Proceeds will benefit the Chris and Brian Swanson Technology Fund and the Tyler Horrigan Scholar-Athlete Fund.

Tyler Horrigan and brothers Brian and Chris Swanson were student-athletes at Shepaug Valley High School who died in 2002 and 2003.

The event is held to the motto of "You play for the love of the game... we play for the love of the boys."

The round-robin and then single-elimination tournament will be played with wooden bats. Players are asked to bring wooden bats.

Competition will be contested in men's `A', men's `B,' men's `C', fun and coed divisions. At least five women must be on the field for coed teams.
