Stephen A. George, 86, a longtime resident of Cheshire, died at dawn on Easter Sunday, March 31. He was the husband of Helen (Ramanauskas) George for 65 years.
He was born June 10, 1926, in New York City, son of the late Marion (Harder) and Stephen A. George.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy with the Seabees, serving in the South Pacific in World War II.
He retired from SNETCO after 43 years of service.
He was a member of the Pioneers and a past president of the Foreman's Club and a past captain of Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department Co. 2.
He enjoyed riding his John Deere, fishing for striped bass and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by three daughters, Marcia Wittneben, and husband, Robert, of Southington; Marion Smith, of New Milford; and Linda Kelly, and husband, John, of Cheshire; six grandchildren, Matthew, and his wife, Meghan; Adam and Brandon Wittneben; Kathryn Oparowski, and her husband, Jared; John Kelly and Stephen Smith; four great-grandchildren, Cole and Grace Wittneben and Mairenn and Fallyn Oparowski; several nieces and nephews; and a sister, Grace, and husband, George Corrigan, of Framingham, Mass.
There are no calling hours. A funeral Mass will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany, 1750 Huckins Road, Cheshire. Burial will be at the family's convenience.
