The Sherman Park & Recreation Department offers programs throughout the year.

FAMILY

Public speaking

High school students and adults may participate in public speaking classes directed by Robbyn German. Sessions will meet Feb. 26, March 5 and 12 from 11 a.m. to noon at the cost of $30.

Skiing at Thunder Ridge

Lift tickets for Sherman residents for Thursday skiing at Thunder Ridge in Patterson, N.Y. are still available at $16 per night. Rentals for skis, snowboards and helmets are available at $24 per night. For more information, call Park & Recreation or Ginny Fielding.

Ice skating

Skating is available as weather conditions permit at Schimpf Pond.

Family swim

Residents can swim at the New Fairfield High School pool as part of a program in cooperation with New Fairfield Park and Recreation. For signup or information, check www.newfairfield.org and link to departments/park and recreation/special events/family open swim.

Nature trail

A trail over the mountain extending from the town park to Colonial Park is open to residents.

YOUTH

SPARK

An after-school program for schoolchildren in grades K-8 meets weekdays from 2:30 to 6 p.m. during the school year under the supervision of Steven Rianhard and Danielle Shook. Those interested are welcome to stop by.

Puppetry

Youths aged 9-12 may participate in designing puppets, writing scripts and performing in front of a small audience.

Sessions directed by Robbyn German will meet Feb. 26, March 5 and 12 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Sherman School at the cost of $30.

ADULT

Volleyball

Open sessions for residents aged 18 and older are offered Wednesdays, except school vacations and special events, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Sherman School.

Basketball

Open sessions for residents aged 18 and older are offered Tuesdays, except school vacations and special events, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Sherman School.
