While snow caused delay, inclement weather couldn’t stop the Cub Scouts of New Milford’s Pack 467 from holding its annual Pinewood Derby.

Originally scheduled for Jan. 23, the pack moved the race event to the following day to avoid pack members and their families from having to drive with iffy road conditions.

Waiting a day didn’t slow down the fun or the model racecars built by the Cub Scouts ranging from first- to fifth-graders.

Forty-four participants competed, including Cub Scouts, siblings and parents.

Festivities were held at the Odd Fellows Hall on Route 7.

Joseph Fontanilla took top honors in the Tiger den; David Liete won for the Wolves; Jackson Higgins was the fastest Bear; Daniel Vrba, last year’s champion, beat out the other Webelos; and Zachary Cadovius was the victor in the Arrow of Light den.

The third place overall champion for the entire pack was Will Bergner; second place went to Jackson Higgins; and in his last year competing, Zachary Cadovius proved he crafted the car to beat with his overall championship victory.

Thirteen additional trophies were awarded for creativity, with Oliver Brandel winning the coveted sportsmanship trophy.

Pack 467 Pinewood Derby committee chairman Izaak Davis organized the event.
