KENT — Richard Velky, chief of The Schaghticoke Tribal Nation, does not intend to accept any revocation of the limited liability standing issued by the Secretary of the State’s office for his tribal business entity or the purpose of forming the LLC — to open a casino.

Secretary of the State Denise Merrill issued a statement Wednesday that while Velky’s application for Confluence of Rivers Tribal Business Entity LLC met limited liability company requirements, it does not meet the requirement of the legislative Special Act 15-7 that allows for the development of a casino.

“As you know, the registration form plainly states that the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation “seeks, through this new LLC, to develop a casino in Connecticut pursuant to Special Act 15-7,” Velky wrote Thursday.

“We therefor oppose any attempt to revoke the registration...and we intend to continue to proceed under Special Act 15.7,” the letter concludes.
