Dr. Mark Ruchman, of Washington, has been elected to join the International Eye Foundation’s board of directors.

An ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Ruchman will, in his new position, attempt to provide leadership and guidance “to fulfill the IEF’s mission of saving sight and preventing blindness, especially in the developing world,” according to an IEF press release.

Ruchman currently serves as the national medical director of OptiCare Managed Vision. His responsibility is medical management, utilization of protocols and quality improvement for a network of 15,000 ophthalmogists and optometrists in 17 states.

“I have reviewed the packet of information about the wonderful work of the IEF, and am very excited and honored to be a member of your board,” Ruchman wrote to the IEF.

Ruchman earned his undergraduate degree, Magna Cum Laude, at Williams College in Massachusetts and his doctorate from Yale University School of Medicine.

He is married to pianist and composer Sharon Ruchman.
