Rose Michalek, 83, had worked at New Milford Hospital

Rose M. (Romano) Michalek, 83, formerly of New Milford, died March 1, 2010, at Laurel Hill Healthcare in Winsted following a long illness. She was the widow of Fred Michalek Sr.

Mrs. Michalek was born Dec. 3, 1926, to Joseph and Maria (LaMagna) Romano.

She was employed for many years as a dietary aide at New Milford Hospital.

Mrs. Michalek loved playing cards, ceramics and watching soaps. She had a passion for baking Italian cookies.

Mrs. Michalek is survived by a daughter, Ann Marie, of Florida; six grandchildren, Alexis, Meghan, Voni, Rob, and Christopher, of Florida, and Michael, of Connecticut; four great-grandchildren, Izayiah, Elyjah, Jaxsun, Owen of Florida; a twin sister, Mary DeAnzeris, of Torrington, a brother, Anthony Romano, of Winsted; sisters-in-law Dotty DeCosa and Kitty Michalek, of New Milford; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Fred Michalek Jr.; sisters Ernestine Romano, Serena Mitchell and Josephine "Jay" Romano; and a brother, Joseph Romano. Another sister, Lucy Iacino, of Winsted, died two days after Mrs. Michalek;

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the spring.

The Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home in West Hartford is in charge of arrangements.
