Rev. Lawrence Leclair, former Washington priest

The Rev. Lawrence J. Leclair, 84, of Summer Hill Drive, South Windsor, passed away on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at his home.
Father Leclair was the son of the late Joseph A. and Alexandra (Lussier) Leclair and was born in Taftville on Aug. 15, 1926.
He attended Sacred Heart School in Taftville and Norwich Free Academy, after which he attended St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield. He completed his theological studies at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore.
Father Leclair was ordained to the priesthood by the Most Reverend Henry J. O'Brien, bishop of Hartford, on May 14, 1953, in the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford.
Among Father Leclair's assignments were St. Bernard's Church in Sharon, St. Joseph's Church in Meriden, St. Ann's Church in Avon, St. Gabriel's Church in Milford, Blessed Sacrament Church in Waterbury, St. Mary's Church in Milford, Holy Family Church in Enfield, and St. Lawrence O'Toole Church in Hartford. He served as pastor of St. Mary's Church in Windsor Locks from 1980 to 1987 and then as a priest-in-residence at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Washington Depot. He later served as chaplain at Waterbury Hospital from 1989 until his retirement in September 1996.
Recently, Father Leclair was assisting at St. Francis of Assisi Church in South Windsor.
Father Leclair is survived by two brothers, Normand P. LeClair and his wife, Frances, of Roseville, Calif., and Gerard A. Leclair and his wife, Laurette, of Thomaston; 17 nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, David Leclair and Arthur Leclair, and his sister, Laurette Duff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. today (Friday), Feb. 25, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Road, South Windsor, with the Most Rev. Henry J. Mansell, archbishop of Hartford, as the principal celebrant. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Taftville.
