Ray Tompkins, 68, had a passion for golf

Ray V. Tompkins, 68, of Newtown, died May 30 at Danbury Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of Susan (Wrabel) Tompkins.
Mr. Tompkins was born Feb. 13, 1944, in Bridgeport, son of Margaret (Hurley) Tompkins of New Milford and the late Ray Tompkins.
He retired from the Newtown Police Department with the rank of lieutenant after 20 years of service.
He had a passion for golf and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Giants.
In addition to his mother, and wife of 49 years, he is survived by a son, Scott Tompkins, and his wife, Kathleen, of Sandy Hook; a daughter, Kimberly Tompkins, and husband Scooter, of Newtown; a granddaughter, Avery; and a sister, Carole Carroll, and her husband, Bill, of Florida.
There are no calling hours.
The Honan Funeral Home of Newtown was in charge of arrangements.
