The New Milford Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society will kick off June 27 at 2 p.m. at Sarah Noble Intermediate School on Sunny Valley Road.

Cancer survivors from New Milford and the Shepaug region are invited to attend and participate in the opening ceremony.

This year’s theme is music, in honor of Eric Seigel, a longtime member of the Relay committee who lost his battle this past year.

The honorary chairman this year is Mike Martinelli and the Littlest Angel is Giovanni Thomas.

Martinelli, a liposarcoma survivor since his diagnosis in December of 2013, lives in New Milford with his wife, Kristina, daughter Madisyn and son Conner.

At 1 ½ , Giovanni was diagnosed with Wilm’s Tumor, with a kidney completely covered with a cancerous tumor. After months of chemotherapy and surgical removal of the kidney, he was pronounced cancer free Jan. 16.

Twenty-seven teams have registered and have raised $30,252.75 to date.
