Data collectors for the 2010 physical revaluation in New Milford have completed 80 percent of the data required for residential property in the town.
Tax assessor Kathy Conway asks residents in the town to allow entry into their homes for interior inspections to be conducted when the data collectors arrive at their doors.
"I know that in these times, people are leery about letting someone they don't know into their homes," Ms. Conway said. "But these data collectors carry two forms of ID and are registered with the police."
"A homeowner can call our office," she said, "or the police department to check on the authenticity of a data collector arriving at his home."
Data collectors make two attempts to gain entrance. If entrance is not obtained, a letter would be sent asking the homeowner for an appointment. Evening appointments are possible, Ms. Conway said.
Residential valuation review and analysis begins this month. All sales will be reviewed and many of the sale properties will be physically inspected.
A market approach will be used for determining the value of these properties.
Commercial/idustrial valuation review and analysis has begun and will continue through July. Income and expense reports has been collected for all commercial and industrial property for the past three years.
This information will be used in determining values of these properties.
