A free, drop-in preschool screening session will be offered Nov. 9 from 10 to 11 a.m. in Washington.
The session, open to families with children 2 to 5 who live in Washington, Roxbury and Bridgewater, will be offered in the REACH early childhood classroom at Shepaug Valley High School, 159 South St. The screening will assess the presence of possible developmental delays and result in a determination whether a child's performance appears typical for a child his/her age or requires further evaluation.
The screening involves the parent/guardian and child and will consist of the completion of a development history form, and "games" that target reasoning, articulation, language and motor skills with members of the preschool team.
The screening process takes about 45 minutes. A staff member will discuss self-help skills, social-emotional development and review any group experience the child may have. Referrals for screenings could be made at any time.
