Sherman Playhouse and Voices of Poetry will co-sponsor a special poetry event June 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Sherman.

The event, which will mark Voices of Poetry's first anniversary, will feature Marilyn Nelson, the state's former poet laureate, and other distinguished poets who will read their work.

A reception and book signing with the poets will follow.

Nelson is the 2012 recipient of the Poetry Society's Robert Frost Medal and is the author or translator of 14 books and has received numerous honors and awards.

She is a professor emerita of English at University of Connecticut, and was founder/director and host of Soul Mountain Retreat, a small non-profit writers' colony.

Joining Nelson will be Kate Rushin, Charles Rafferty, Steven Ostrowski, David Cappella, Faith Vicinanza and Neil Silberblatt.

A donation of $20 per person and $30 per couple/family is suggested. Students under 20 will be admitted for free.
