NEW MILFORD — The teachers who formerly taught at John Pettibone School in New Milford turned out in force to cheer the school’s long time custodian Alan Smith as he achieved recognition for his years of service at a Board of Education meeting Tuesday.
A hoot and hollers went out as Superintendent of Schools Jean lauded Smith, who is retiring after 32 years, for his career which was entirely spent in the New Milford school district and at Pettibone. Paddyfote then called for a standing ovation.
“I want to thank all my friends, the faculty and staff of Pettibone School, for all their support through the years,” Smith said as he received an award for years of service. “I could always count on all of them.”
Pettibone School was closed at the end of June and has been turned over to the town. Teachers and staff from the school have been reassigned to Hill & Plain, Northville and Sarah Noble Intermediate schools.
