New Milford and Danbury hospitals have named Dr. Aparna Oltikar as chairwoman of the Department of Medicine.

Oltikar replaces Dr. Patricia Tietjen, who has served in that role since 2008 and is now vice president of medical affairs at Danbury and New Milford hospitals.

“We are thrilled to have someone of Dr. Oltikar’s experience in both internal medicine and hospital medicine to lead the Department of Medicine at our two hospitals,” said Tietjen.

“Dr. Oltikar is a strong patient advocate who focuses on safe, outstanding quality care for our patients,” she added, “and brings new ideas for better health care and its delivery to our hospitals and practices.”

Prior to her appointment as chairman of medicine, Oltikar was a hospital medicine physician at Danbury Hospital.

Dr. Oltikar earned her undergraduate degree in chemistry from Harvard University and graduated first in her class at Cornell University Medical College.

She completed her residency in internal medicine at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Cornell University Medical Center, and served as chief medical resident at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Upon completion of that year, Dr. Oltikar went into private practice for nine years in Litchfield County.

She then pursued a career in hospital medicine, first at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, and in 2009 when she joined Danbury Hospital.
