To the Editor:

As the parade marshal and adjutant of American Legion Post 153 in Kent, I wish to thank all the organizations and individuals who made the Kent Memorial Day parade such a success.

Thanks to all United States military veterans, members of American Legion Hall Jennings Post 153, the Kent Volunteer Fire Department, Kent Center School band and its director, David Poirier, William McCann, Rick Osborne, Jerry Tobin Williston B. Case, Donald Gleason, James Marden and Charlotte Lindsey.

Also, the Kent Library Association, Kent Garden Club, First Selectman Bruce Adams, the Revs. Roger White and David McIntosh of St. Andrew's Church, the Rev. Melinda Keck of the First Congregational Church of Kent, Kent Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, Kent Girl Scouts and Brownies, and Bethany Keck, who sang "America the Beautiful."

Special thanks to Timothy Brown and Richard Lindsey for putting up the flags on Main Street.

Also, thanks to Guy and Stephanie Mauri for the release of their 30 white doves at the conclusion of the ceremonies at St. Andrews and the First Congregational cemeteries.

Many thanks to the Rev. Thomas Berberich of Sacred Heart Church, who gave his last benediction at the veterans memorial as he is retiring effective July 31.

Rev. Berberich served as a member of the Kent veterans memorial committee that erected this monument.

I wish to commend and thank the Kent Lions Club for its continued support, handing out more than 700 flags to the spectators, and Davis IGA for refreshments handed out to the children and spectators at the end of the parade.

Also, thanks to All-Star Transportation for providing the bus, driven by Heather Gerowe, that transported residents back to Kent Center School.

I also want to extend my gratitude to the many residents who attended the parade. Thank you, one and all, for honoring our veterans both living and deceased.
