The village center of New Milford was alive with celebration July 7 as the community celebrated, three days after the fact, our nation's 236th birthday.

The Greater New Milford Chamber of Commerce served as host to the annual Fourth of July event. Among the highlights were a New Milford Lions Club-sponsored carnival at Young's Field and the climactic fireworks show, sponsored by the Chamber.

The Woman's Club of Greater New Milford got things started by constructing and serving a giant cake near the bandstand on the Village Green. The cake also proved a symbolic recognition to the club's 50th anniversary.
