Neftali "Nate" Velez, 61, of Danbury, died June 13 at Danbury Hospital.

He was born in Isabela, Puerto Rico, to the late Manuel and Caridad Torrez Velez. He grew up in Bridgeport and attended Bridgeport schools.

He was a retired machine operator with the former Gilbert & Bennett in Redding. He was an avid fisherman and a fan of the New York Yankees and Giants.

He is survived by his sisters, Miriam Negron, of Danbury, and Esther Velez, of Southbury; brothers, Hector Velez, of Danbury, and Manual Velez, of New Milford; his longtime companion, Susan Curtis; and grandchildren, Christian and Jazii Curtis.

The Green Funeral Home in Danbury was in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
