Forty-seven students at New Milford High School recently reached one of the pinnacles of academic achievement.

Those teens joined 59 fellow NMHS students as members of the NMHS chapter of the National Honor Society.

Students must maintain grade point averages of 3.83 and meet standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character in order to earn recognition.

The Oct. 21 induction ceremony was hosted by senior Nevan Swanson, with assistance from chapter president Samantha Quinn, vice president Gabriel Hack and secretary Melanie Talmadge.

The guest speaker was NMHS math teacher Ryan Fitzsimmons, honored recently as the school district's Teacher of the Year.

Superintendent of Schools JeanAnn Paddyfote and NMHS vice principal Elizabeth Curtis were among those to congratulate the inductees.

The chapter's advisors are Denise Duggan and Cathy Neill.
