The New Milford High School art department has been busy with a variety of activities.
The art department's annual holiday art sale continues today (Friday, Dec. 7) from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Route 7 South high school.
New Milford public schools' art teachers recently traveled to the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford for a professional development experience about literacy and fine art.
Annette Marcus' studio art, AP studio art and independent painting classes recently held their annual SnapCup Coffee House art display and poetry recitation. Inspired by the 1950s Beat movement, the event affords advanced art students the opportunity to present their poetry inspired by their own art work.
Mrs. Marcus and Kristi Soucie recently accompanied advanced art students to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, where they viewed the "Regarding Warhol" exhibit, as well as various ancient, non-western and modern collections.
Senior art show alumna Rachel Domoff, the social media and marketing coordinator of the After School Arts Program, based in Washington, recently visited the art department. Ms. Domoff presented information and prior examples about the second annual Celebration of Young Photographers, held Dec. 1 in Litchfield. Participating NMHS students included Jesse Longo, Lorenzo Ash, Brienne Saraceno and Justin Emmans.
Paula Marian, NMHS' head art teacher, recently took part in a show, "ARTique," in Ridgefield with the Connecticut Clay Artists.
She displayed her ceramic vessels and jewelry.
Cut, Paste & Copy
Cut, Paste & Copy recently held its annual advisory board breakfast meeting. CPC students presented themselves and their accomplishments to members of the professional graphic design community -- who they will later shadow -- clients and guests. Student wore T-shirts they had designed and screened at Full Circle Promos, courtesy of Mike Giacona, the newest advisory board member. Recent CPC projects include tickets for M*A*S*H and the End of the World Dance, as well as all graphic design products for NAMES.
The jazz band, orchestra, concert band and wind ensemble will present a concert Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at the high school. The chorus and advanced chorus will host a concert Dec. 16 at 3 p.m., also at the high school.
Band to travel
The New Milford High School marching band will travel Dec. 27 through Jan. 2 to Orlando, Fla., to perform at Universal Studios and EPCOT.
