A New Milford motorcyclist was critically injured Monday afternoon when he collided head-on with a Honda Civic.

The Honda was driven by a New Milford woman making a southbound turn onto Park Lane (Route 202) from the intersection of Park Lane East, according to New Milford Police Department spokesman Lt. Larry Ash.

Joseph Powers, 57, was flown by LifeStar medical helicopter to Hartford Hospital and was listed in critical condition early Tuesday, according to a hospital spokesman.

The driver of the other vehicle, Donna Granato, 19, of New Milford, was not injured, according to the police report.

Police said Ms. Granato said a mid-sized SUV indicated its intent to turn right from Park Lane Road onto Park Lane East just before the crash. Investigators are interested in identifying the made and model of the SUV.

Preliminary information indicates the operator of the SUV was not in violation of any state traffic law.

The 3:25 p.m. collision caused closure of Route 202 until 7 p.m., police said.

Witnesses to the crash and the operator of the SUV are asked to call investigating New Milford police officers Brian Peloso or Ray White at 860-355-3133.
