Mildred Philipps, 89, founder of Meals on Wheels
Mildred A. Philipps, 89, of New Milford, died May 27 at New Milford Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of William J. Philipps.
Mrs. Philipps was born Dec. 23, 1922, in Queens, N.Y., daughter of the late Hamilton R. and Amelia (Raabe) Allen. She was a resident of New Milford since 1949 after moving from New York.
She was a member of the New Milford Methodist Church, a member of the American Red Cross and worked as a volunteer for the local blood drive for many years.
Mrs. Philipps was a founding member of Meals on Wheels of New Milford.
Besides her husband of 62 years, she is survived by two sons, William H. Philipps of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Richard E. Philipps of South Kent; three grandchildren, Nuria Philipps, Nicole Philipps and Michelle Philipps; and three nephews, Mark Gantner, Ronald Gantner and Kenneth Gantner.
A memorial service will take place at a future date at the New Milford United Methodist Church, 68 Danbury Road (Route 7 South).
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford is in charge of arrangements.
