Twenty-two martial artists from Hong's Taekwondo Academy of New Milford are proud owners of medals and trophies earned in national competition.

The area contingent competed recently at the 11th United States Taekwondo championship at Queens College in New York City.

Master Hong described his students “as great examples of perseverance, dedication and determination” for their participation in different competitions.

Among the academy representation in the family-oriented event were children as young as age 6.

In all, the 22 local martial artists brought home 45 rewards, collected from competitions such as form, board breaking and sparring.

Representing Hong’s academy were black belts Lee Honlu, Isu Hong and Andrew Manag; red belts Karina Batista, Julia Cortese, Katherine Cortese, Veronica Cortese, Azarel Gomez, Madison Lovello, Ashton Manag, Eli Newton, Ashwin Ram, Christopher Reiss, Emily Robitaille, Jordan Silva and John Tortaga; blue belts Jack Grady and Karolina Zimny; green belts Jason Morrow, Abigail Noonan and Christian Robitaille; and yellow belt Antonia Rodriguez.

Hong's Olympic Taekwondo Academy of New Milford is located at 89 Danbury Road (Route 7 South) in New Milford.

The instructor is Master Hong, a young sixth-degree black belt in Taekwondo from the prestigious Kyung Hee University in South Korea.
