Louis Frank Tencza, 95, of New Milford, affectionately known as "Pop," died May 22 surrounded by his loving wife and family at his home.

Mr. Tencza was born Aug. 9, 1916, son of the late Frank and Anna (Golema) Tencza. He lived his entire life in New Milford.

He was the devoted husband of Anastasia "Stella" (Osuch) Tencza. They married while he was on leave from the U.S. Army during World War II. They shared 66 years of marriage and raised a large family.

Known by many for his work ethic, Mr. Tencza worked from a young age. He was employed by Slowick's Farm Equipment from 1946 through 1953, followed by a 45-year career as a mechanic at Ruwet-Sibley Equipment Corp. in New Milford. He retired at age 81.

Besides his wife Anastasia, he is survived by three sons, Louis Tencza and his wife, Patricia, of New Milford, Frank Tencza and his wife, Carla, of New Milford, and Jim Tencza of Avon, Mass.; six daughters, Bernadette Jewell and her husband, Mark, of Sandwich, Mass., Alice Franco and her husband, John, of Willington, Barbara Lawton and her husband, Richard, of Farmington, Christine Tyson and her husband, Joseph, of Torrington, Diane Deak and her husband, John, of Sharon, and Mary Cullmer of Kent; a brother, Joseph Tencza of New Milford; four sisters, Dorothy Tencza of New Milford, Florence Diorio of Trumbull, Phyllis Struski of Bethel, and Frances Dennis of Bethel; fourteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Tencza was predeceased by three sisters, Veronica Piskura, Helen Pruchnik and Blanche Kowalski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today (Friday) at 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in New Milford.

The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford is in charge of arrangements.
