Mrs. McGovern was born July 28, 1926, in Bari, Italy, to the late Tripolino and Mary Romano. At 11, she moved to the United States and was raised by her aunt and uncle, Lola and Jack Sario, in Lake Carmel.
She met her husband in the Lake Carmel Fire Department marching band and they married on April 7, 1956.
Mrs. McGovern was employed by Pitney Bowes in Danbury most of her adult life, retiring from the Stamford branch in 1995.
She was devoted to her family. She was an avid baton twirler in her youth and enjoyed oil painting while raising her children.
Mrs. McGovern is survived by three children, Christopher (and Kim), Denise (and Michael David), of New Milford, and Jeffrey (and Jackie); eight grandchildren, Karen, Michael, Lindsay, Erin, Sara, Tom, Kristi and Joseph; and one great-grandchild, Mikaela.
The Balsamo-Cordovano Funeral Home in Carmel was in charge of arrangements.
