Gunn Memorial Library in Washington will open a new, used bookshop, the Book Basement, Columbus Day weekend.
The bookshop will be open Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Oct. 13 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Wykeham Road library.
The opening is the prelude to what will be a year-round book shop.
Following the opening, the shop will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For year, volunteer Bob Williams has almost single-handedly sorted and priced the books for the library's successful annual book sales manned by volunteers, according to library officials.
More than 10,000 quality books have been organized in new floor to ceiling bookcases.
The shop includes a collection of Irish literature and Spanish language books, a selection of children's books, art books, rare books, fiction, history, photography, gardening, travel, nature and sports publications.
In addition, cookbooks, and music and books on CD, DVDs and a few LPs are available.
