The goal was educating the public about fire prevention.

Along the way, it surely was OK if everyone enjoyed the experience.

That summed up a well-attended and entertaining New Milford Fire Prevention Day, hosted Sept. 30 by the New Milford fire marshal's office and Greater New Milford-area volunteer fire departments.

Activities at Home Depot along Danbury Road (Route 7 South) included a landing by a LifeStar helicopter, hands-on cooking fire extinguisher training, a K9 demonstration, a live mock burn, hands-on fire extinguisher training and a vehicle extrication demonstration.

Smoke detector classes and build-a-fire-truck workshops for kids were also offered.

In addition, the fire departments, New Milford Community Ambulance, New Milford Police Department, CERT, Addie the Dalmation, the state police fire investigation van and accelerant detection K9 and Candlewood Lake Authority were all on hand to help educate the public.
