To the Editor:

In the true spirit of Thanksgiving and the approaching holiday season, a group of accomplished poets and talented musicians, some of whom had to travel more than two hours each way in order to join us, read their work or performed their music one evening at a special Voices of Poetry event at St. Peter's Masonic Lodge in New Milford.

They did so solely to offer their support and raise money for Loaves & Fishes House, the soup kitchen in New Milford.

As a result of that event and the generosity of those attending, more than $1,000 was raised for Loaves & Fishes.

My profound and heartfelt thanks go to the following poets and musicians for reading and performing so beautifully at the event:

Duane Andrews, John Bolster, Richard Close, Donald Hicks, Mike Latini, David K. Leff, Don Lowe, Steven Ostrowski, Karen Silk, Lisa C. Taylor and Susan Tuz.

Special thanks to:

Lisa Martin, president of Loaves & Fishes, for her tireless efforts on behalf of our neighbors in the New Milford community;

The volunteers who contribute and donate food to and prepare and serve meals at Loaves & Fishes, seven days a week, 365 days a year, the true heroes;

The members of St. Peter's Masonic Lodge for allowing us to conduct our Voices of Poetry event at that venue; and

All those who joined us at the event and generously supported the good work done by Loaves & Fishes in and for the New Milford community.

If you would like to help this worthwhile organization by donating your time, food or money, please visit www.loavesandfishesofnewmilford.org/.

Best wishes to all for a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
