To the Editor:

The Rotary Club of New Milford held its annual community document shredding day -- ShredFest 2012 -- May 5 in the Lore's Plaza parking lot.

There was an excellent turnout for this yearly Earth Day event, with many enthusiastic individuals and businesses bringing hundreds of boxes of papers for shredding by a mobile shredding truck.

As in past events, more than 13,000 pounds of paper was shredded that would have otherwise ended up in the landfill. Almost seven tons of shredded paper will be recycled into other paper products, saving approximately 145 trees.

We wish to thank the following for their support in helping to make this popular event a huge success:

The mayor's office, the Greater New Milford Chamber of Commerce, the News-Times and The Spectrum, Charter Communications, the Pennysaver and Lore's Plaza for helping to promote this valuable service.

The Rotary Club would like to especially thank Michael Smith of Secure Eco Shred of Brookfield for donating his time and shredding trucks for these events.

All money collected by the New Milford Rotary Club at ShredFest 2012, as at any of its popular events like the Memorial Day duck race, the Village Fair Days fried dough booth, golf tournament and fall rose sale remains within the local community.

This enables us to help senior citizens, schools, student scholarships and many other local civic and environmental projects.

Please visit our website at www.nmrotary.org for information on future events and becoming a member.
