The Kent Memorial Committee is working to identify all of Kent's eligible veterans for a new monument to be installed at the Kent Veterans Memorial location on Maple Street, also known as Veterans Way.
Investigation of eligibility is nearing completion with approximately 35 veterans qualifying to have their names inscribed on the stone.
Veterans entering the military from Kent will have served in the following: Lebanon/Grenada, Aug. 25, 1982 through July 31, 1984; Panama, Dec. 20, 1989 through Jan. 31, 1990; and the Gulf War/War on Terrorism, Aug. 2, 1990 to the present.
Anyone with knowledge of a Kent veteran who may be eligible is asked to contact Andy Ocif, VMC chairman, at 860-927-3318 or Charlotte Lindsey, secretary, at 860-927-3724.
Letters were recently sent out by the committee requesting donations to reach the established goal of $10,000, which will include the cost of the new monument and continuing cost of maintaining the Veterans Memorial including new halyards, flags and lighting.
Checks may be made out to KHS-Veterans Memorial and sent to P.O. Box 651, Kent, CT 06757.
