LITCHFIELD — Jurors are returning to court Thursday for deliberations in Warren resident Niraj Patel’s murder trial in Superior Court in Litchfield.

Jury deliberations began Tuesday. a guilty verdict on felony murder charge requires a consensus that Patel, 28, was part of a three man conspiracy to rob Luke Vitalis of drug proceeds on Aug. 6, 2012 and Vitalis death occurred in the course of the crime. Patel is facing life in prison if found guilty.

The jurors went home Wednesday after asking for clarification on lesser robbery and burglary charges Patel is also facing.

Patel is charged with conspiring with two other men to rob Vitalis, 24, of Sharon, of drug proceeds. One of the men, Michael Calabrese, 29, also of Warren, allegedly shot and killed Vitalis at the time of the robbery attempt with a gun he got from Patel. Calabrese is being held on $1 million bond and his case is in the pre-trial stage.
