John Lemone, 83, served in the Navy

John R. "Monk" Lemone 83, of New Milford, died July 11, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Lemone was born March 30, 1927, in Noroton Heights, the son of Nicandro and Gelsomina Lemone.
At 17, he entered the Navy. After the Navy, he became the owner/operator of Monks Diner in South Norwalk.
Later in his life, Mr. Lemone started Lemone's Independent Refuse Company, operating in Weston.
Upon retirement, he settled in New Milford.
Mr. Lemone raised five daughters on his own.
He had a great love for animals and owned many throughout his life.
Mr. Lemone also loved music and dancing in his younger years. He was best known for his ability to make others laugh with his jokes and antics.
Mr. Lemone is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Felix and Louise Lemone; five daughters, Debbie Lemone, of Darien, Barbara Lemone-Goss, of Tennessee, Joanne Lemone, of New Milford, Lorraine Albert, of New Milford, and Patty Lemone, of North Carolina; and many grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien.
Memorials may be made to a local animal shelter of one's choice.
