Joan P. Johnson, of Sherman, died peacefully April 23 in her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of George C. (Bud) Johnson, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Mamaroneck, N.Y., the daughter of Rudolph F. and Charlotte H. Petrick.

She was artistic, and an avid collector of American antiques, enjoyed gardening, decorating, entertaining and, most of all, time with her friends and her animals. She was a passionate defender of abused and neglected animals.

Mrs. Johnson leaves behind three sons, William, and his wife, Nan, and their daughters, Kaitlan and Rebecca; Robert, and his daughters, Kelly Sue, and Chelsea, and granddaughter Hazel; and Brad, and his wife, Julie, and daughters, Katharine and Sarah, a son, Ben, and granddaughter, Savannah.

She will be especially remembered by her friends in Sherman, Carol Gerger and Eleanor Bambach, and those from Mamaroneck, Claire Finelli, Nancy Stark, Anne Rollins and Danny Greenbaum.

Mrs. Johnson will also be remembered by the members of the Sherman Congregational Church and those of St. Thomas Episcopalian Church in Mamaroneck.

The family will announce a private memorial service to take place in Sherman at a future date.

Memorials may be made to the ASPCA, PO Box 564, Sherman CT 06784 or to the Sherman Congregational Church, 6 Church Road, Sherman CT 06784.
