Jim Silver, 67, of Dover Plains, N.Y., died Oct. 12 after a long and courageous battle with corticobasal degeneration. He was surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Janice M. (Graveline) Silver since 1965.

Mr. Silver was born Oct. 25,1944, in Ogdensburg, N.Y., to R. Manley and Elizabeth "Betty" (Maville) Silver.

After spending his childhood on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, he joined the United States Navy and received advanced training in computer programming. He was an avid sailor, a former commander of the Mid-Hudson Power Squadron. Some of his happiest times were spent near the water.

Mr. Silver was a trustee of Sacred Heart Church in Kent and an active member of the church community.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Silver is survived by a daughter, Jane; a son, Jay, and his fiancée, Maggie; a son, Jeff, and his wife, Melanie; a brother, Larry, and his wife, Peggy; a sister-in-law, Sally; a brother-in-law, Paul; seven grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will take place today (Friday) at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 17 Bridge St., Kent.
