Jerry B. Allford, 78, was an Army Veteran

Mr. Allford was born Feb. 12, 1932, in McAlester, Okla.
Mr. Allford worked at the Henry Street Settlement House and the Jewish League for the Blind in New York, Elmhurst Hospital in New Jersey and New York University Hospital and Family Services of Greater Waterbury.
Mr. Allford was a veteran of the United States Army.
A longtime resident of Roxbury, he served as past chairman of the Democratic Committee and a justice of the peace.
His passion for opera led him to create the Afternoon at the Opera series, which he presented at the Roxbury Senior Center and at Watermark and Pomperaug in Southbury for many years.
His numerous friends benefited from his vast library of cookbooks.
Mr. Allford is survived by a brother, J.A. Allford, and a sister-in-law, Virginia Allford, of McAlester, Okla.; a niece, Janis; a nephew, Wayne; numerous family members; and his devoted friend, Nick Sedelnik. He was predeceased by his life partner, Steve Pisni.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford is in charge of arrangements.
