James Ruiz, 74, loved time with family

James J. Ruiz, 74, of Danbury, died July 29 at his home. He was the husband of Shirley (Nash) Ruiz. The cause was cancer.
He was born May 5, 1939, in Danbury, son of the late Anthony and Filomena (Troccola) Ruiz.
He was a big New York Giants fan. He was known as a happy and loving individual, who loved spending time with his family and friends.
He and his wife loved going to North Carolina, Lake George and the casino. He was a basketball coach for St. Peter and a softball coach for Rapid Electric.
In addition to his wife of 33 years, he is survived by his children, Shirley Anne Martin, and her husband, Andy, of Bennington, Vt.; James Ruiz, and his wife, Judy, of New Milford; Shelly Scrivens, of North Adams, Mass.; Douglas Pelletier, and his wife, Kristen, of Danbury; Raymond Pelletier, and his wife, Deborah, of Wallingford; and Daniel Pelletier, and his wife, Linda, of Bethel; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Anthony Ruiz Jr., and his wife, Marlene, of Bethel; his brother-in-law, Robert Riley; his special cousin, Donald Troccola, and his wife, Geraldine; his godchild, Joseph Troccola; several nieces and nephews; and his close longtime friend, Walter Johnson, and his wife, Barbara. He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Riley.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The Cornell Memorial Home in Danbury was in charge of the arrangements.
