The Jewish Community Center in Sherman will open its juried photography show. with a reception July 19 at 6 p.m.

It will continue July 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and July 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the 9 Route 39 South center.

The photographs will be judged by Frank Galterio, a photographer for more than 30 years, a key player in the founding of the New England School of Photographic Arts, where he also serves as assistant director and instructor, a filmmaker and a co-founder of the Kent Film Festival, which has grown into the Litchfield Hills Film Festival; Howard Schatz, author of "H20," featuring underwater photography and whose work is exhibited in museums and photography galleries; and Karin Smith, a photographer who exhibits at art shows, fine art festivals and galleries in the area, and who is co-manager of the former Northern Exposure Photographic Gallery in Kent and West Cornwall with her husband.

First-, second- and third-place cash prizes will be awarded and three honorable mentions will be presented.
