The service will honor the journalist by screening a video about her life and work.
Sanders became the first woman to anchor an evening network news program, the first woman to report from Vietnam, and the first female vice president of news at a network.
Her documentaries won three Emmys and are now part of Harvard's Schlesinger Library.
She was alone in covering the Women's Movement.
Sanders spent summers each year in Sherman.
Many townspeople may remember Sanders’ CBS news report of the evacuation plan for Sherman in case of nuclear attack.
Donations for the Marlene Sanders Journalism Award at New York University, where she taught for 20 years, will be accepted.
For information and to register, call the 9 Route 39 South center, at 860-355-8050.
