Private Tyler J. Light, a 2013 graduate of Henry Abbott Technical School in Danbury, recently graduated from Parris Island in South Carolina and is in U.S. Marine Corps combat training at Camp Geiger in North Carolina. Tyler, the son of Mandy LaBella and William Light, of New Milford, is off to military police training for 13 weeks following his March 24 graduation.
Air Force Airman Jared D. Plourde has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. He completed an eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Plourde, a 2014 graduate of Shepaug High School, is the son of Barbara A. Baird, of Washington, and David L. Plourde, of Roxbury.
Matthew Kraft was recently named a 2016 Summerall Guard in the changing of the guard ceremony, in which the 2015 guard exchange rifles with the new platoon and give a drill demonstration. Kraft is a rising senior in political science at the military college at The Citadel in South Carolina. Since 1932, The Citadel's Summerall Guards have provided precision drill performances and made appearances, representing the best of the best of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets.
