One-hundred thirty-one war-time veterans -- from World War II veterans to those who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan -- were honored for their bravery with the Connecticut Veterans Wartime Service Medal during a June 22 ceremony at New Milford High School.

Highlights of the emotional event were speeches by three New Milford High School graduates -- John Burns, Patrick Clare and John Kornewicz-- who have chosen to join various branches of the military.

The presentation ceremony was arranged by State Rep. Clark Chapin (R-67th) and State Rep. Mary Ann Carson (R-108th), who have attempted to send out letters to all veterans who might be eligible for the Connecticut Veterans Wartime Service Medal.

Those who are eligible but need information about how to receive one, contact the state House Republicans communications office at 1-860-240-8716.
