Improvements to Lynn Deming town park in New Milford are coming closer to fruition.

Parks & Recreation Commission chairman Tom Beecher has informed the Town Council all land-use approvals are in place.

The permit has been received from FirstLight Power Resources, the owner of Candlewood Lake, to do work between the present bathroom building and the shore line of the lake.

“We’re in a position to move forward with hiring a clerk of the works/construction manager, contractor and engineer,” Beecher said.

Parks & Recreation has been in the process of finding a clerk of the works and contractor for the project.

Beecher noted no one on the commission or the Parks & Recreation staff has the experience to oversee the project.

The funding was unanimously approved by the Town Council in February 2014.

A total of $600,000 will come from the Waste Management landfill settlement fund, and $95,000 appropriated from various lines in the 2014-15 budget.

Improvements will include 37 new parking spots; traffic flow improvements; a picnic area; installation of a playscape; construction of a kayak/canoe launch; and equipment shed.

The Parks & Recreation Commission hopes to have the improvements completed and the park ready to reopen by Memorial Day 2016.
